Tabitha, send a collection plate around while Jae is preaching and announce a monetary goal. Inform the congregation that once the goal is reached, you'll disconnect Skype.

You could get a new roof out of this.

My preaching comes from God. From whence does yours spring?

God is nothing ... sort of like love comes out of nowhere without even thinking about it ... come to think ... Ide may even extract thoughts into a dark and obscure spot of considerable occult attribute ... a Wiki'd conception in essence?

Should pure love have a few Q'loos attributed? Thus Pix Seas and pools of light in the twilight zoans ... Hindi origins ...

Laugh now chansen.

You can hear the rifts travelling through the ether that supports reality ... infinite sunshine and humour ... in reality this is a stretch cause virtue is a pain ... sort of like a monolithic gospel without depth ... for the mythics to dig in layers causing tears onion's kin ... connected word ... a mean medium for understanding the unknown ideal ... at least humiliated until fallen upon ... scones of hard bread?

Where's Rev. John's cook book? Some pork fat may be prerequisite to understand ... *OD fissures ... like flighty herons ... rail birds on stilts ... the crimson skeleton called them Gar Trued and Heath Cliff ... marbled arches ... Dover?

The there are greystone, ironstone and bluestone ... for the wending ... and wanting of Moor ... Jayne?

Black Velvet Band is a drumming into the blind heart ... only to be endured in intimate connections! Acceptance of unseen consequences inclusive ... or learn about sects before dipping in that pool ...

How many folks study alternate religions ... or even how their own evolved out of nothing but strange words and myths ... indeterminate?

Ah word is the thing ... albeit often indelible ... deeply immersed in the unseen yeoman/pages of tomes ... Hint: read intuit!

Kind 've abstract as portions of the Nus ...

Sending you positive energy for your continued search Tabitha. Are you now using the new 'on-line' method with the UCC? I'd be interested to hear more about your experience if you are.

I am not on "search Cmtee"- old name I know. In BC we piloted the new model so it is very close to what we did 3 years ago. We will see if the "portal" is up and running when we are officially looking. First we do a congregational profile-to see who we are and then a job description-to see what we want and then with Conference approval post on the "portal"

Sounds like the system UUA runs for UU searches and candidates. I recall that the search committee spent a fair bit of time on that profile, but perhaps in UCCan a lot can be copied from the JNAC report (based on JNAC reports that I have seen)?

Good luck to you and your church Tabitha. Sounds like you have a lot of energy and gifts in your congregation. We have 3, soon to be 4, United Church pastoral charges nearby who are looking for ministers; 1 United Baptist and 1 2-point charge Presbyterian. Our church has hired half-time, and another one just outside the city has hired 1/4 time. One rural pastoral charge has one minister for 4 churches, relying on LLWL for 2 churches each Sunday. Almost all of these churches have average congregation numbers less than 50. (50 would actually be considered a WOW number!) LLWL are in demand, and sometimes, sadly, even taken for granted, in the churches that have been without a minister for nearly a decade. It is hard to attract dynamic, young ministers to a struggling faith community. I am guessing that your church will not suffer such a struggle.

Our church congregation has been in existence for under 15 years but congregation is mallish-about 40 per sunday and aging. No kids, no youth, no young adults (well 1) and no young families.

Nancy, that is sad. Is the distant great between the churches?
Some of these churches are a 10-minute drive from my house; some are a 95-minute drive. In 3 cases, a 2-point charge is within 15 minutes of each other, and in each case, when I lead worship, the combined congregations numbers rarely meet the 50 mark. An individual has taken it upon himself to call people together to brainstorm about our difficulties. I've gone to some of the meetings, and provided input. There is suspicion from some about these meetings...claiming that all he is trying to do is get churches to amalgamate. Few ministers are getting involved. One of our churches is a beautiful historic site...and it is literally falling apart. It is way too expensive for the small congregation to fund (and they are getting some funding from various grants). But, and this is the nuts and bolts of it, there are so many good, kind, loving people working very hard to keep their particular sanctuary open. Even without a minister. Even without much of a congregation, and no one who could be considered young. Even with expensive repairs to make.

Tabitha -- Your church's numbers are like those of the church I attend. And we are doing okay. We even have some children, and occasionally new members. We can only afford a half-time minister, and we are just barely making ends meet. You have the advantage of geography in attracting a new minister.

Does anyone else think that it's a bit crazy to continue on like this, with tiny, struggling congregations entirely comprising elderly members?

Could it be called necrotizing? Somewhat necrotic as it eats itself up without future concerns for the numbed children!

There's this old sage that said a country that never taught its children about intelligence, science and wisdom of application would suffer ... and so it goes !

Left some time again if you ask me about blind dogmass!

I think that as long as a group of people wants to meet and worship together, they should.

People can gather together and and worship without a minister and without a church building.

The first Christians were persecuted, so they had to meet in secret, in ruined buildings and catacombs.
And divinity school hadn't been invented yet, so they had to rely on the natural leaders they had in the group
to be confident and courageous, improvise sermons and prayers.

At least people's homes aren't catacombs, and there are so many resources now to help congregations that
have no ministers, like "The Gathering." If the group wants to continue, then they should. I'd don't think that's
crazy - I think it's determination.

I like this because I agree with the freedom.

But then I think of all these little splintered groups who could be adding some wisdom and vitality to outreach into the larger world?
