Hey, I wanted Al Gore to be elected! For a long time I’ve wanted the NDP/Greens - as it is in BC - to be our federal leadership and official opposition, respectively...but I don’t want to leave room for the Conservatives to get in at this juncture. I think you have to be strategic about it.

I knew people who protested way back at the Clayoquot Sound protests. I didn’t know anybody who was in Seattle during the WTO protests but we saw it on TV and it was astonishing. My boyfriend at the time was excited about it. I began to learn then, more than I’d learned thus far - what globalizasation is, what its pitfalls, how exploitative and entrenched it had become and was getting worse, and why so many are so righteously angry. I also remember the APEC protests in Vancouver. Saw it on the news. My bf thought this was going too be our Kent State/ National Mall moment in time. But it wasn’t. The controversy passed quickly and no one listened. Clinton’s bj from Monica Lewinski was more a interesting news item. After all, the people running all the greed, enjoying all the excess of the neoliberal system they were protesting were the same people who had protested in the 60s and early 70s. There was no time for middle aged adults who were focused on their careers money and status, to protest...our small generation was protesting their behemoth which, in many cases, our parents were part of. Good luck with that. Just try to tell a well established baby boomer they’re wrong. They were the CEOs, they were the politicians, they were the cops pepper spraying. They were not interested in changing their system. It’s only beginning to change now, as two sets/ half generations of children from boomer parents catch up to each other, and overtake the boomers as a voting block.

I went back to school and got a “left wing democratic socialist” education which was the best thing I ever did. I learned which lenses need to be critically applied to the world.

Neoliberal globalization and globalism are different things. We (me and my acquaintances) didn’t care about Slick Willie’s bj. We cared about other problems his slick moves supported.

When I speak about the pitfalls of globalization, I refer to the global entrenchment of the military industrial complex that has prevented a better world from being realized. I am not against global unity and freedom of movement, immigration, multiculturalism, or cooperation between nations and people.

Peterson may as well be a reincarnation of one of McCarthy’s cronies and Alex Jones has serious unmanaged psychiatric problems, and promotes dangerous, useless, ideas ...moving on...

Why do I smell fascism in that name (probably because it seems like a suspicious reaction to democratic socialism that’s already there)? I hope i’m wrong, but it sounds like parts of Italy today, where fascists beguilingly appropriated some socialist policies, but they only applied to ethno-nationalists, for their benefit. Fascism does this (operates in the following way)...uses working class grievances, combines it with nationalistic/ ethnocentric nostalgia and folklore to rally people together under false premises and become an authoritarian ruling class over the people. The people who who are allowed to gain from that system are taught to hate the people who can’t.

I am wrong, it looks like. I don’t think this is what I described above. But why this party, when the DSA exists? Why are they not becoming that party? Or maybe they support it.

Maybe it’s because of Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party in Canada, that makes me very cautious when I read that name. Because he’s up to no good. He’s vying to become a right wing media political influencer, along with Jordan Peterson. He’s already made appearances on the Koch supported Dave Rubin show...maybe some people from the wing of the Bernie bros who became right wing liberatians or “classical liberals” as they call themselves, misnomer or not, are in on it. I hope not. I’ll be watching what happens with that.

Did you know about it in 2007?

This is coming out of the Boomer thread.
What is needed to make life more affordable, just, and save the environment?
Please be as concrete as possible, re who is to make which changes ( individual, businesses, politicians), does it need laws, taxes, revolutions, what are the benefits and what are the downfalls.
May I bring this backto the original question. This is not about what politicians/ parties should be elected. I am asking what concrete steps/ programs you see neccessary, how much regulation by the gouvernment and in which way, or what reaction by the people ( if you think revolution)- but then, please describe what your society is looking like afterwards an how its regulated.

I am still waiting for @Ritafee to answer my question how a society without money will actually work.

This is as good to post here as anywhere. The co-host of the show is talking about getting rid of the “loan shark economy”.

About 8 minutes.
You mean this? You weren’t able to summarize the main ideas in three sentences? Just because someone else is saying it on TV doesn’t make it more credible.

It’s not necessarily more credible, perhaps...but the video is more comprehensive than 3 sentences. Good luck to anybody giving all the concrete suggestions needed to save the world in 3 sentences.

There weren’t more than three basic ideas in that 8 minute video.
