I forgot to go to the Cultural Center Chenail this evening for a free showing of Blackberry. It is Canadian Film night tonight. I took B to Ottawa this morning to catch a flight to eventually get her to San Diego. Her sister plans to scatter her partner's ashes on Sunday. He died a year ago. Then I got Euros for our trip to Cyprus in May and two rain barrels as the Barrel Shop for the garden on the way home. Got some groceries and corners for downspouts when I got to Hawkesbury and took a book back to the library. Sunny but cool here. Got to about 10 C. Did some work with downspouts and rain barrels and topped up the soil in the new raised bed. Took the dog for about a km or more hike before supper. The frogs were singing this evening.

I took a picture yesterday evening of the farther back part of our back yard. A little right of center near the front of the trees is the bridge between the main part of our yard and the sort of feral part at the back. There is a drainage creek flowing from right to left under that bridge in behind the closest tree on the right. The trees at the near back mark the back of our lot. There are hay fields between our lot and the far hill. I prepared a plot on this side of the creek and two close to the creek on the other side. The plots are possibly planting butter nut seedlings if I get them along with 7 more I need to prepare farther back. Most of the plots will have a mix of branches and other organics for a base to provide drainage with a thick top layer of garden soil. Butternut trees need well drained soil and most of the back part is almost a wetland with mounds of soil made by a previous owner for a BMX circuit. Most of the trees at the front are white ash so some of them are starting to die as the emerald ash borer spreads in them.

There is a large red or white pine on the left side that is about halfway between the creek and the back of the lot. There are two baby pines on that side and two spruce trees behind the poplar cluster on the right side. Most of the interior of the lot is meadow. I have been clearing buckthorn from the lest side of the lot. It made up about 80% of the brush and small trees on the left side. There is a little bit of Sumac at the back and a variety of other small trees. The large trees are a mix of swamp oak, ash and trees I have not identified yet.

We have an inventory of our trees. Most are tagged and referenced in a manual which we got when we bought the house. Previous owners were required to do so before GRCA would allow them to put in a new driveway

The front part of our lot has mostly oaks and ash trees with some maples. I do not know what kind they are. I should do an inventory when we get back from Cyprus. There is roughly two rows of trees on the east side of our lot on the front part and I do not know which ones are my responsibility and which ones are my neighbour's responsibility. Most of them have trunk diameters about 30 to 40 cm and they are mostly close to the same height which is well over 30 feet.

Good morning! Weather, birds, loud mufflers, lawns and trees; as well as other things. This thread can be quite educational. We welcome you all to Thursday, inviting you to join in spirit round the Coffee Cart, for hot beverages, warm friendships, and conversations. All is ready; grab a mug or a cup, and join in! All is ready, all are welcome.

Emerald ash borer is wicked
Yeah, the guy behind me, or at least the guy who owned the property when I moved in, lost his ash.
We have an inventory of our trees.
I put in all the trees on my property (new surbuban neighbourhood on former farmland) so I guess I have one, just not a formal one. Simply me knowing what I planted.
when we get back from Cyprus
Be interested to hear about that. It's an island with quite a long history (it was a major trade centre prior to the Bronze Age Collapse) so of interest to me but not one you usually think of as a holiday destination.

Our cousin's son went there and shared jow much he enjoyed it. Lots of beaches and history. There is a park or nature reserve in the mountains. Almost everything is within an hours drive from Larnaca which is the main tourist center.

This might be our last European trip so we wanted to go somewhere special.

One of the upsides of living in a city with a med school and teaching hospitals, I guess: We almost never have to go out of town for medical stuff. Though one of my staff went out of town for an MRI once. Got in quicker in another city.

We frequently need to drive for medical things. Closest CT scanner is an hour away. MRI is nearly four hours away. Specialist appts are mostly in the city, though some see fairly routine issues at the local hospital. . Weather often interferes with appts. and this one was immediately rescheduled. Someone living closer will get scanned sooner.

At coffee time we watched our neighbour, who is 80+, get in his truck that lives in the yard. He did some tyre spinning before managing to get going. Apparently he decided that he didn't need to go anywhere after all as he was back in a couple of minutes. Probably just drove around the block and rated the slipperiness as too dangerous.

Living in a rural-ish northern area is different from living somewhere like southern Ontario. Distance become relative and accepted to some degree. My radiation oncologist apologized that I'd have to drive two hours and cross the Malahat for radiation. I told her it wasn't anything compared to the Pine Pass and about 6 hours to get to PG.

I hope your man gets his CT soon and that it gives answers for treatment. Hugs to you both Kay.

Good morning! Happy Friday! We speak of trees, travel and cruises; winter roads and cancelled appointments; health services in densely populated or lightly populated areas; and all the other stuff that happens, or occurs to us. We bring it here to the Coffee Cart, for conversation and community, and hot beverages and baked goodies. All is ready, as we prepare for the weekend ahead. Come in as you have time, and join the conversations! All are welcome.
