It has been said that pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall so yes it is important ....
for the taxpayer to fund ensured but nigh invisible security for the privileged PM to publicly demonstrate it's sincere solidarity with any marginalized.

Would have been 'fun' if this would have been replicated in the public square of India - talk about putting some of their own skin in the game!

Two obvious ones. Wouldn't surprise me if some plainclothes folks from either the Vancouver police or the RCMP (or both) were embedded in the crowd as well. Ensures security without it being visible, important at an event like this.
Actually, having a second look, the woman just behind him in the high heels could be one, too. Or the man with the turban, but would he bring his kid to work?

I doubt the latter. The fact is, the Vancouver PD would likely be working the crowd, perhaps subtly, at any large gathering like this. There are any number of risks ranging from simple pickpockets to Boston Marathon level attacks that they would need to be prepared for. The only difference with Trudeau there is that you'd have the RCMP adding their agents to the mix.

"The man with the turban" is Harjit Sajjan - the Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Vancouver South.

He was at the Sikh fertility festival too...tho he was impossible to see in the crowd...

Of course. At least our guy is pretty

But , there has been quite a lot of bad press lately

India fiasco trip
Illegal border crossers
Back log of refugee crossers
Pipelines
NAFTA
The G 7fiasco
Broken promises
MMIW file going no where, resignations.....
Poll numbers are down

And oddly , in the midst of poor press, pro numbers, we have a dust up with Saudia Arabia

We accuse trump all the time of creating chaos to change the channel

Is that what is happening here?

I am surprised about the Saudi Arabia thing. I am quite certain, someone will tell him he better step back a bit there is too much money involved.

But women have a legal right to go topless, at least in Ontario, and I'm guessing in B.C. I don't know why people get freaked out. They're boobies. If we all just accepted them as the norm, which they do to a certain extent in Europe, we'd all be a little more relaxed. Pride parades are going to be a little more openly sexual than some other events. I thought he was fine. Liked the pink Mardi Gras beads, lol.

Yes topless is law in Ontario. But it is rare to see it off the beach.

Hey. I love nudist beaches. Use them all the time

Just in this climate, with the past issue hanging over his head, i might have suggested that he skip that particular woman if I was his advisor

Quick thoughts about your list.

India fiasco trip
Definite fiasco. Night after night on the news of Trudeau wandering around India finding no one who actually wanted to talk to him. And the ethnic costumes became the butt of jokes along with the perception that this ended up as a family holiday more than anything. Definitely hurt him.

Illegal border crossers
Back log of refugee crossers

I'll put these two together. I think this is firing up the Conservative base more than it's hurting Trudeau's base.

Pipelines
No win situation there no matter what he did. It's going basically as I said it would. They've started the pipeline in Alberta. That will create some jobs there, and it gives the feds the chance to work out some agreements with First Nations groups who oppose the pipeline - and not all do by any means. He doesn't have a lot to lose in Alberta regardless. People think this will hurt him in BC because they see the Green tail wagging the NDP dog and forcing the NDP government to oppose the pipeline, but they miss that every poll shows a majority of British Columbians actually support the pipeline. This won't hurt Trudeau too much. It might shake his environmentalist base a wee bit.

NAFTA
Most analyses I've read or heard seem to be that Trudeau has handled NAFTA as well as anyone could against a US administration that simply can't be predicted. The only real complaints I've heard have come from anti-supply management people like Maxime Bernier who think he should just give in to US demands on that. But even the Conservative Party formally supports supply management, and Bernier's "let's take Trump at his word" causes many people to roll their eyes I think. No damage to Trudeau from this one.

The G 7fiasco
Blame for the "G7 fiasco" seems to be universally on Trump. Trudeau was asked a question at a news conference, repeated a position Canada had taken many times before, Trump suddenly threw a childish temper tantrum. No damage to Trudeau from this one.

Broken promises
Some have definitely taken the shine off Trudeau's "golden boy" image. Although every government "breaks promises."

MMIW file going no where, resignations.....
Yeah. My biggest criticism of the Trudeau government actually is its handling not just of the MMIW file but native issues in general. I've heard native leaders still say that at least they have a PM who listens and tries to understand their position, but it's not translating into actions or results that I can see.

Poll numbers are down
Poll numbers are not that bad for this point in a government's mandate. The last numbers I saw had the Liberals up by about 2.5 (about 37.5 to 35.) They've been up and down and have swapped the lead with the Conservatives a few times, but seat projections I've seen based on recent polling numbers suggest that if an election were held now the Liberals would win a solid minority and possibly a slim majority. I have friends in the NDP who are frankly worried that Jagmeet Singh was a terrible choice for leader and that progressives who are disenchanted with Trudeau may still vote Liberal. The Liberals will lose a few seats in the Prairies (but don't have that many to start) and perhaps some in Ontario (although Ontario has this weird habit of going one way provincially and another way federally) but are banking on picking up massive seats in Quebec, where the NDP seems to be collapsing.

And oddly , in the midst of poor press, pro numbers, we have a dust up with Saudia Arabia
Probably works to Trudeau's advantage. Few Canadians are going to be upset at him standing for human rights, especially when there's a Canadian connection to the Badawis. And Canada and Saudi Arabia don't have a massive trading relationship anyway. I suspect that this might lead to restarting discussion about a pipeline to the East Coast, since Atlantic Canada's oil comes from Saudi Arabia and the idea of a more secure supply might start to have some appeal. But that will happen after the next election, because Trudeau can't disturb Quebec.

We accuse trump all the time of creating chaos to change the channel

I don't really see any of this as "chaotic" in the sense that's talked about in Washington.

As for the picture with the topless woman, one could argue that the optics are bad given the "groping" controversy, but I don't think those allegations were going anywhere anyway. They're 20 years old, there's been no other accusations from anyone, the "grope" as I understand it from what I've read was an uninvited touch to the face (inappropriate, but not exactly "grabbing her by the p***y" in Trumpian language), and it involves a woman who says she's accepted his apology and clearly just wants to move on.

All things considered I think Trudeau and his government are navigating the waters (including the unexpectedly choppy ones caused by Trump's unexpected election) reasonably well. Certainly not without challenges and mistakes, but there really haven't been any disasters - and from the numbers I keep seeing, the economy keeps humming along quite nicely.
