Oooo - big thunderstorm this evening!! Must be spring!! Rain is pelting against the windows, lightning flashing ...

They called for a chance of thunderstorms here but we never got any. Even the rain wasn't heavy as predicted. Not complaining. Light rain is better for watering.

Yeah, that was a terrible thing to see. I've started a thread in Church Life with a link to the CBC article.

As far as I know after getting released early Sat morning from the emergency room my Dad has been at home - haven't heard from my parents today.
We ran some errands for them, picked up lunch. My Mom has a cold, I'm hoping I don't have it, I'm feeling off today.

The town I live in is small. Maybe 34,000 people? It's not tiny, but because it sits between two big lakes there's no room for it to grow any bigger. I'm okay with that. I like to live in a small place. I can ride my bike from one end of town to the other in 20 minutes. I can walk the street at night without my mind racing to collide with fear. Small places often feel removed from the rest of the issues that plague the world. We busy ourselves with yard work and watch the news thinking that the worst of it "could never happen here".
Today 4 people were killed by a shooter in our small town. A place where violence like that could never happen. We were told to stay in our homes while streets were closed off and locked down. We waited for updates while we could still hear the helicopter circling overhead.
Everywhere
It used to be
that our nightmares
held no territory
in the waking world
the monster of homelessness
and the hellions of addiction
were problems
better left for elsewhere
violence
was a sharp
and broken stick
not long enough
to reach us here
in our tucked away corner of the globe
it used to be
that when our horrors
did somehow spill out
over the threshold of sleep
it was only
into the places
that were far away
places we could pray for
and think about
from a safe distance
places that were
"not here"
but what used to be
is no longer
and what's left
is all that is
today
here is there
the place we thought
we would never live.

I took the cat to the vet today after noticing some bad smell in two places of the house, thinking of a urinary tract infection. Never new a vet can actually make a cat pee in a cup.:D
But, test was normal- and I got some “ happy pills” for her to “ relax” ( I suspect non pot related) and suggestions for a relaxing smell diffuser. Supposedly, neighbouring tom cats might be to blame to get her too exited...:cat:

I hope she stops making the house stink!
Thankfully it was just in two places- the door mat, which I threw out, and somewhere by the window- first I thought she peed in a flowerpot, but it wasn’t the pot. Washed everything down with vinegar and haven’t smelled it since.

This Penticton shooting of 4 is still on my mind. Apparently the shooter-a semi retired engineer used to work for the city. A mild mannered ok guy. However his ex-wife was always in conflict with the neighbours-chimney was to short, ash was in her yard, drainage problems etc. and she has lots of complaints lodged with by-law enforcement. He was often over at his ex wife's. Wonder what made him snap?

Mrs.Anteater,
Years ago we had a cat that we were very fond of – big, beautiful male. It was always very clean about himself – and carefully in his use of the litter box whenever he wasn't getting outside. But as he got older, he develop epilepsy. Often when he had to attack, he would pee himself. When he came to, he would smell it on himself and be so embarrassed. Then I also found him peeing in unlikely places, on the floor beside his litter box, or in the corner of a room. As he showed other signs of aging, and loss of quality of life, we had him put down. We still speak of him as of what the cat should be.
I remember the smell of kitty cat pee.

For many years now, our church has held a sunrise service on the banks of the beautiful St. John River about three blocks from our church building. This year we have been planning to repeat the tradition.

I hope we are all good swimmers, because the river is it expected to start flooding anytime now and to peak on Sunday morning. This river has a history of flooding, usually about every 20 years. But the time between floods is getting shorter and floods are getting more severe. We had one of our worst floods last year. We should have been good for a couple more years, but now they are predicting one almost as bad for
this year.

Our church should be okay, floodwaters came within half a block last year. I suppose we could hold our sunrise service in our parking lot looking towards the flooded street in the direction of the river. We will have to use detours to get there.

I live on a hill, and Seelergirl is well back from the river. We will be safe; but I feel sorry for all those homes or businesses on the floodplain. Some people haven't completed repairs from last year's flood.

London's done a good job of keeping construction off of the floodplains (they are mostly parkland in this city) but we still have issues with people in low-lying areas who don't have sumps getting flooded basements and smaller problems like that. The drainage of our roads are in a bit of a state which leads to intersections flooding in heavy rains, too. My thoughts go out to those in Quebec and Eastern Canada facing floods right now. I've been seeing some stories from CBC about parts of Quebec being flooded.

As we cover more and more of our urban land with buildings & paving .... there is less and less ability for water to be absorbed by the earth - instead it runs off & we end up with flooding. This I know is not the only cause of such flooding, but it is becoming a much bigger issue in urban areas. And the houses, factories, warehouses, malls, roads just keep getting bigger and bigger

I've just installed some rain barrels outside of the room - to catch all the run-off from our roof. We can use it to water the garden :) Or maybe we can get more industrious and hook up a gray water system here - use the rainwater to flush & shower?

Anyway - it was a nice warm afternoon - now raining again. So let's put the fire on, and join each other as we enter into Good Friday pensiveness, maybe wrap up in a prayer shawl if you're feeling chilly. Sending healing love to Northwind as she journeys on so bravely with her cancer treatments, knitting all the while.

Thank god, it isn’t that bad. Since I have eradicated the two spots where we had the smell, it seems to be ok. She is also getting her happy pills.:cat: A cat that cannot be cured from peeing all over the place, would not be living in my house very long.

There have been bombing attacks in Sri Lanka. I don’t think my friend went home for Easter but I am not sure. She is part of the Catholic minority which were targeted, I am very worried about her and her family. I’ve sent messages but haven’t heard back yet.
