Basic Posting & Forum Info

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Things for me, went well when I first joined. Then things fell apart. Obstacles galore fell in the way. One demon or another would interrupt and tell me, "You need a unique e-mail!" Or, "the e-mail you are using is already taken".

Of course it has been taken, and by me. I have no problem like this when I write in my Google Forum. The same is true for a science forum I enjoy, which has a section for philosophy of science.
It sounds like you have made 2 accounts for WC2. The reason why it was one account per email was to reduce the ease of making a sock puppet account.

==================
Needless to say, and without blaming anyone, I did become extremely frustrated with the time I wasted trying to register and navigate WC 2. Now, I am looking forward to lots of happy dialogues. Is it possible to preview, edit and change things before the final posting?
Yes, click More Options...
from there, Preview...
(both are below your post).

@RevLindsayKing

You had set up 5 different accounts each with different emails.
I have tried to communicate to you by email to all of the emails regarding your issues, but have had no responses.
If you are able to connect now, you can start a conversation with me, or reply to this thread..

Linds, when you create an account here, or pretty much any website in the world, the website sends an email to the address you provided during registration. This is to confirm that the account you created really does have the person with that email address behind it. In that email is always a simple link to click to complete this registration process. Do that, and you're in.

I knew Pinga was working with you on this, and I saw and cleaned up a bunch of extra accounts you created a few weeks ago. Last night, I think, I was doing some housekeeping of accounts, seeing how many spammers we've been banning lately, and noticed this new account of yours. Again, uou had not clicked the link in the email, so your account was "awaiting validation". Knowing your history, I validated it manually for you, but I forgot to let Pinga and Mendalla know.

I'm sorry, Linds, but there is nothing more difficult about registering for WC2 than any other website. If you are not getting the emails, then it's just you not getrtng them, and I can't explain that.

And we've been over this, but the inflated view count od your Science a go go thread is due to multiple search engine spiders crawling all the pages every time you bump it, which has been daily or weekly, for years. The vast, vast majority of those numbers are not from real people.

not knowing the background on this ... I wonder if perhaps the distinction between logging in & registering was confusing for RevKing? Perhaps on returning & needing to log in, the register function was used instead, causing multiple accounts & confusion.

I'll paste this from another thread:

How to Log In

Look at the top right corner, if you're in already, your user name will appear, along with Inbox and Alerts.
If you aren't signed in, click the Log in or Sign up link on the top right hand corner. Near the top of the page, you should have the option of:
Do you already have an account?
  • No, create an account now.
  • Yes, my password is:
Make sure the second option is selected if you already have an account. Enter your username and password. You may also want to check the Stay logged in box. Click the red Log In button.

You've made it here! Hopefully the basic features will come naturally to you, but if it doesn't we are here to help!

The subforum topics can be viewed by clicking the forums button on the top page.
Underneath that, you may find the New Posts to be useful. This will show all of the threads that have posts that you have not seen. If you click on a thread title from this list, it will jump to the first new post.

To view a thread, click on forums at the top of the page. Click on the subforum you are interested in, for example click on 'Social', and then click on the title of a thread.
To jump to the oldest post that you have not yet read click on Go to First Unread which is on the left hand side both above the original post, as well as below the last post for that thread.

To write a post, type in the box that says Write your reply... and then click the red Post Reply button, or more options, which offers the option to Preview before posting.

To start a new thread, there's a red Post New Thread button near the top and bottom of every forum.

If you wish to quote someone, the simplest way is to click Reply on the right hand side of the post you are interested in. If you use reply on a post that already included a quote from elsewhere, that quote will not automatically be included in your reply (see posts below for an example).

When reading through a thread where posters have used this reply feature to quote one another, a little up arrow appears to the right of X said: . If you click this arrow, you will be taken up to the post that was used for the quote (see posts below to test this out).

Someone can be tagged by typing the @ symbol, and then start typing their username, without a space. When a box pops up with the correct name, click it. For example, my tag is: @ChemGal. Tagging someone will alert them if they have that option selected. Readers can also bring up the user's profile box by clicking on this tag.

A tip for getting around a bit quicker is the Quick Navigation icon. It looks like 3 horizontal bars at the bottom right hand side, and when you hover your cursor over it, Open Quick Navigation appears. If you click it a popup button appears. You can access everything on the site without using this, but this might save you a few clicks from getting to where you want to go.

HOW DO WE POST A SIGNATURE, WE WOULD LIKE TO USE?

I am hopelessly ($@#) lost (at the present time). I do hold out hope that a person such as myself can learn this "blogging?". may God bless as GOOD FRIDAY and the church business goes on. when I type and/or say "Christ on the cross" it seems a sacrlidge although the words (must?) may be said.

Welcome Hilton. How can we help you figure out the posting? The poster here named @ChemGal is a great resource.

We don't have a blog section. Some people do link to their blogs on other sites.
If you just want to share some thoughts that don't fit with another thread, feel free to start your own! Just go to the appropriate section, for example Religion and Faith and in the top right hand corner click the Post New Thread red button.

I have no idea what I am doing (reply to pr. jae). I am going to take a ($@#%) coffee break. GOOD-BYE.
Hopefully we'll see you back soon and the info above helps!

WOW. (!?). I just looked at my name (somehow) and now I have one "like" (from chemgal?) and one point. what (the *) is a point?
Yes, I liked the post you made on my profile.
You get points with trophies http://www.wondercafe2.ca/index.php?help/trophies
You got one trophy with your first post. You should get a trophy for the like to, although it might only work on the forums, not profiles. That's never come up before!

"What (the *) is a point?" That's an excellent question hilton. Some of us have now spent years here wondering what the * the point is.

I do not know who I am typing to. Also some where in my travels in the WONDER/CAFE(WC) I came across something that said "5-members... 3-robots...." or words to that effect. to pr.jae; thank you for your reply. we do not know what (the *) a point is and please don't tell me there are robots in the (*) WC (! or?). I hope I get 5-6 good points. have a respectful EASTER. (capitals mean nothing)>

You're typing to whoever reads :)
Certain pages - home, forums, members - shows who is on the site currently. Robots are things like Google, so that the website shows up on search results.
Have a great Easter!

I hope I am not on "live" because I am swearing and am not a robot. I know what "google" is. Can people go on this WONDER/CAFE (WC) "live".

You are "live" to the extent that everything you post is visible to anyone, member or not, who visits as soon you hit "Post Reply". It is not a chat engine, though, like Skype or Yahoo Messenger where everything is "real time" and a conversation ends at some point.

Google and other search engines (Bing, Baidu, etc.) use programs called "robots" or "spiders" to collect data from websites so that you can search those websites in the search engine. Yes, all your posts will get indexed and come up if someone searches for them.

And welcome! Hope our posts are helping and keep asking if you need more info. We are friendly and don't bite (well, there's @chansen but we keep him on a leash :D).
