However, the revelation that Trudeau essentially had a private, political intelligence unit in the PMO monitoring the separatists in Quebec outside of the country's official apparatus seems just a bit authoritarian and definitely constitutionally iffy. The attempts to enlist the aid of the RCMP intelligence unit (this predated CSIS) are also problematic, not that the RCMP intel group were exactly playing by the rules either (which is why we now have CSIS and a Senate oversight committee).
