Wow - I just was given $50million

Just read this thread...Life has been mildly crazy and I've neglected you good thinkers. With my cash, I would give to charity and family, and use a little to get new cupboards in my kitchen. I might even get new flooring. I might even discover that having that much money is more stressful than managing the little bit I now have. It's nice to dream though. (And I'll always dream about being able to afford a race horse, not for the gambling, just for the sheer love of the run!)

Draft horse ... a blue carrier? Seems like an image I've seen in a myth for younger learning souls ... children of passions ... gone like the wind once adulterated ignorantly ... some matured souls are like that! Disturbed mellowing ... makes for a rough whine ...

We have a long way to go for ultimate wisdom ... distant learning enigma ... a psychic problem ... and then no one believes it because evidence on mental excellence is diffuse ... like light through a rainbow ... a dream?

Let's see ... $50 million - that sure seems like a lot. First off I'd be getting some good financial advice, as pinga mentioned. Crucial first step. Probably would establish some sort of foundation (like lots of rich folks do!) to manage a chunk of the money & support causes near & dear to my heart that are otherwise underfunded. Maybe set up a housing co-op or two for women (with good accessible spaces! One unit set aside for Kimmio if she wishes) & fund some trades apprenticeship bursaries for women.

I'd have some conversation with my kids about their needs & dreams ... see what the best ways might be to support them with these - not necessarily to fund the whole thing for them, but to make a substantial foundation for them to continue to work from. Maybe establish travel trusts for them ... travel is so crucial to growth IMO.

I'd get my mate a little convertible sports car for the summer and a handy small pick up truck for other driving - two things he's always wanted.

Who was it ... T Boone Pickens that said give your kids enough to get them started ... and not enough to allow them to do nothing ... the least of all essense of process ...

Thank you! :)

I believe that I have moved all relevant posts. @Luce NDs , If I have missed any of yours, let me know. via wondermail, please. I will move them. I guessed at a couple.

I can't even imagine 50 million! Advice would be needed, fershure. Some would go to each of my kids, but not so much they stop contributing to the world with their abilities. Conversations would happen with some local groups to see what their dreams are. I think I'd like to set up some education assistance - maybe funding for medical training for someone who is obliged to work HERE or return the money. Also some sort of funding for the local Junior/Senior High school. There is no music programme, funds are limited for the various needed special ed programmes, and oh horror - no librarian. Seems these things could use some financial input.

I have ZERO interest in making my kids/ grandkids/future generations stinking rich.

Another question is- how do you deal with all the letters, mails, phone calls you will be getting from people who want money? ( As it happens to lottery winners). I remember the couple in NS who won the lottery and gave most of it away and people were still bugging them. She had cancer and died of it soon after. He was interviewed later and said he wished it never happened because he could not get away from people pestering him. And that despite it being known that they did not have anymore money.

Poor man, @Mrs.Anteater . I know that the person that I used to be acquainted with, has had similair challenges with not-so-immediate family & acquaintances.
