This video was mentioned in an e-mail I get from a knitting designer at Thread & Ladle - her name is Beatrice.

I LOVE this video - about several transformative projects in Tajikistan (did I get that right?) involving collectives of women who raise and spin goat fibre yarns. Give it a watch - it's about 25 minutes but totally worth it - especially on a nasty weather day like this when I have to stay inside. The voice commentary comes in after a bit.

I should get around to posting some of the toques I made. I am slowing down now as I am almost out of recipients. I have just purchased a rectangular loom to attempt socks. It seems more complicated-like Bette was saying-a rib pattern and I need to learn rib on a loom.

I just came back from a stroll to the yarn shop - it's Local Yarn Shop Day! LOL So a Ravelry designer donated a pattern, and my shop had a 15% discount if you bought yarn today for the shawl ... so of course I succumbed to temptation!! I got some beautiful variegated Fleece Artist yarn - from the National Parks collection. These were created to honour Canada's 150th - a collection highlighting colours of 13 of Canada's national parks - one for each province and territory. One is "Sirmilik, NU" - pale blues, gray, ivory of "shimmering glaciers & ice fields" and I'll use a pale gray solid with it. The other is Fundy, NB - blues, greens, browns - "flowerpot cliffs, sandstone and roaring tides" and the solid is a beautiful rich teal colour. Excited to get started on some new projects! I am knitting some shawls and scarves for a few of my treasured colleagues, a gift to them as I retire. But I'm liking the Sirmilik so much I might keep it for myself & knit something up from my stash for that person.

It's definitely winter again - suitable time to resurrect this thread I think! Especially since we're having a bit of a blizzard today in my neighbourhood. The snow has been blowing furiously for most of the day - so a good day to stay in by the fire & do some more knitting! What's everyone working on this winter??

I've recently started a project in 'mosaic knitting' - colourwork pattern is created using slipped stitches - it's a first for me. Interesting to see how the pattern is developing with this shawl pattern (Dovetail Shawl from Ravelry) - it uses two highly contrasting yarns which are self-striping. I had the hardest time trying to choose the yarns!!

Mosaic is on my to learn list. You're inspiring me @Carolla

I'm knitting a Lopi sweater for my husband. Finally. I bought the wool in July 2017....

those colours work really well together Northwind - I'm impressed that you still remembered which pattern you bought them for! LOL I sometimes look in my stash & think .... "hmmm ... I'm sure I had something in mind for this!" Now I'm starting to print the pattern & put it in the bag with the yarn if I get ahead of myself!!

I have the book of patterns. It was touch and go for a bit on whether I'd remember which pattern I wanted to use.....

I finally got pictures of the shawl I knit out of yarn friends gave me as a going away gift when I left GP. I bought the beads in NYC so it will be a great memento shawl

I have also progressed on the sweater

Your shawl is beautiful Northwind. I'm intrigued by how one actually manages to add beads to knitting! It's not yet been something I've felt inspired to learn.

Thanks Carolla. Adding beads is actually simple. I use a thin crochet hook (.70mm) to add them. It's tedious but worth it. If you Google how to add beads to knitting, you'll see a couple of options.

I am currently working on a shawl as a surprise for my Great Aunt on her 90th birthday. I am enjoying it, but I think I have spent as much time undoing rows as I have knitting them! The shawl starts at the bottom and increases as you go, so it’s starting to take longer to get anywhere. I haven’t done much of this type of pattern so it’s pushing my skill a bit. The border is sure going to be interesting!

I picked the pattern off of Ravelry, I’ll see if the link works here

That will be lovely Greywold336! I've done a bit of lace knitting - so much concentration needed and a LOT of markers!! I'm working on a shawl too at the moment - and it's grown to almost full wingspan now - so it's taking me about 40 minutes now to go across & back!! By the time it finishes, I think it will have over 400 stitches/row .... so keep at it I tell myself!!

When is the birthday? Sometimes it's good to have a deadline :) Other times not!

Thanks . I was initially having problems with dropping the yarn overs when I was pearling but now that I’ve recognized that, I am concentrating more on those rows.

The birthday is May 4th. I had initially started this with no date in mind but her birthday is now my deadline. That and I have a baby blanket I want to do for friend whose due in July so I need to give myself time for that!

I’m at 19” of 28” in length, I’m getting there!
