Sigh. So Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do the ring thing tomorrow. She's going to walk down the aisle unescorted (his father will meet her partway, though), a first for a royal wedding. I know little else and care little else. I quipped to my team today that if I see Markle this weekend, it will be because I decided to binge Suits.:D Though, to be honest, I might watch out of curiousity.

So, here's a royal wedding thread. You going to watch? Deliberately avoid? Have a wedding-watching party?

We can also live post comments during the fun if we are so inclined.

I must say that I do like this pair and hope things go well for them. Harry is now far enough back in the line of succession (6th, with his father, brother, and brother's kids ahead of him) that I hope the family will keep their distance and give them some breathing space.

Canadian content note: Brian Mulroney's grandchildren (Ben Mulroney's kids) will be in the wedding party. Meghan is friends with Ben's wife apparently.

Is it too late for someone to try to talk them into eloping?
I can hardly wait for the event to be over with. Tired of hearing who will/might/won't/could walk her down the aisle. Not overly interested in what colour hat Her Majesty will be wearing. Just do it, and have it done with already.

Be careful what you wish for, Red. Can you imagine the media firestorm that would result from someone that high in the line of succession eloping? I mean, I'd be cheering them on but "the Queen is not amused" would likely become the tagline of 2018.

I won't be waking up early to catch it live. Live coverage starts at 0400 hours here. I will probably take a look at the reruns just to get an idea of how it went, and that will be enough.

I was at CFB Gagetown, NB when Prince Harry's parents were married. I was in a barracks with about 30 other women. Many got up and watched the ceremony. Many of the women gasped and ooooed and exclaimed that they would love to be in Diana's position. I surely did not feel that way. For one thing, the thought of having to walk down that long aisle, in front of so many people, with so much fabric around me was horrifying. That has never been a lifestyle I have envied.

I will want to check out some pictures at least. Was way more interested in seeing Kate because my wedding was later that year.
Other than wanting to check things out after the fact, no major interest. It does seem a little odd for Harry to be getting married, it doesn't feel all that long ago that he was in no position to settle down - but he was that much younger then, it just doesn't feel as all that much time has passed.

I am tired of hearing about all the things about Meghan, in terms of how this is such a big change. Another 'commoner' not British, etc. Not as bad as it was when they got engaged, but still. I don't see their relationship as a huge cultural/financial mismatch.

My mom is a fan of the royals - so I've decided to let her watch the wedding on TV. I'll catch glimpses of the goings-on while on study breaks. I consider their wedding to be no more special than that of any other couple.

I'm going to be away this weekend. Won't be watching. Wouldn't be watching if I was home. Don't really care about the fact that the sixth in line to the throne is marrying a bi-racial American actress. Wow. Be still my heart.

The UCW at my church on the other hand is having a high tea on Saturday afternoon where they'll show a recording of the royal wedding. I understand they've sold lots of tickets.

Really, Wills marrying Kate was a bigger deal in that regard. She will be the first commoner to become queen in centuries (I think I saw 400 years somewhere). But marrying commoners and divorced foreigners is a bit of sea change in the modern royal family, esp. given what happened with the Queen's uncle (Edward VIII). It moves the Windsors closer to being a royal family I can live with, even if I will remain a republican at heart.

I don't think their should be a royal family but I will say that it brings in much income

into GB. Would England survive without them?

I suspect I'll tune in. The actual service is at noon I think (according to the video in this link) What time is the royal wedding? Full schedule and timetable for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day So that would be 7:00am my local time - no need to get up & join the media frenzy at 4:00am!! My husband was wondering what 'royal breakfast' we should have - I think me might make some gluten free scones :) What a guy. and then I may nip out to a plant sale ... then back again to see what's up.

I'm not a huge royal watcher, but such an event does not happen often - so filled with tradition, pomp & ceremony - so I find it interesting and enjoyable. I've read that there are something like 10 little kids as maids & pages - that should be interesting!!

I doubt I'll see any of it. Our priority for the weekend was camping!! Where we are going there is no connectivity at all.

Anyone taking bets as to whether or not Harry will shave off his beard? Will Harry be hairy?...

When was the last time a British Royal had and/ or was married with a beard? Will the wedding portraits be another break with convention? A silly little detail (Royal weddings are all about silly details), but I was just wondering.

I'm also thinking, I wouldn't be surprised if Meghan's dress was fitted and short - without a train - a pencil style skirt half with the hemline just above the knee, or right at the knee. A Jackie O. cocktail style sleeveless dress, but with some lace and/ or beaded or blingy embroidery. Nothing too revealing - classic but casual (as far as wedding dresses go - but it'll still cost a small fortune). I think those two suit a bit more of a modern casual style.

Do you normally control what your mom watches?

I give her pretty free reign. I trust her to make responsible choices.

Free reign??? Is this according to stoic law that is rigid?

I suspect we won't have free choice in watching as it seems to permeate the false mediums --- some POTUS!

Tis all about hoo lies with whom ... afterward royal pop-ups ... in the UK once known as Jack-ups ... that can Jilt a great populace or host depending on linguistic tradition and perspective ... a science of its own (as sometimes observed by those not blinded by the functions)!

I’m watching it. Anyone know how/ if I can split my screen on my iPad to be here at the same time? I have had two windows open on one screen by accident, but I don’t know how to do it on purpose!

It is quite lovely so far! I would bet this is the first time ever that a black American has preached there! Enjoyed his sermon. Enjoying the diverse music. The couple look so in love :) as they should!! Like the simplicity of her gown and bouquet.

Wondering who the priest (in the black robes) was who led the Lord's Prayer - they didn't put his name up - the only one not to be named. Even the cellist's name was on the screen.

Now that they’re breaking out the “violins” (cello), I can take a break! As far as Royal weddings go, that was the best, most exciting, inspirational one EVER!

I loved loved loved that they had the old school Anglican and African American gospel evangelical styles mixed! And the traditional and gospel choirs! A few royals and distinguished guests looked like they didn’t know what to do with themselves. It was awesome!

It is as beautiful and wonderful as the millions of other weddings that happen around the world. Congratulations to all getting married this year.
