I thought I'd start a new thread to reflect the changing seasons. Some people stop knitting for the summer. I don't. I just change what I knit. Of course if it gets too hot I have to give it a break sometimes.

What are you working on now?

I'm working on a knitalong shawl organized by my local yarn store. I'm really enjoying it.

I knit a lot so it might look quicker than it is. Speed also comes with practice.

I am loving this knit. I've finished this blue section and have started on the second vanilla section.

Do you knit @KayTheCurler ?

I used to knit but quit after breaking my wrist. It hurt for a LONG time after as it wasn't set just casted until it healed. I've been thinking of trying again - but I was so slow!

I am too, Kay. My sister is constantly disgusted by how long it takes me to do something. I'm also a little "less than perfect". If I discover a stitch missing, as long as I haven't made a visible hole, I am not above simply making another stitch...

However, my sister has twigged me to two ways to "quicken" knitting, although I haven't ventured into them, but YouTube instructions are available: i) Portuguese knitting, and ii) magic loop knitting.

I think I remember you mentioning the broken wrist @KayTheCurler. There may be ways you can do it. I would imagine slow and steady would be good.

Sometimes people with tender hands, arthritis, stiffness in joints find it easier to manage knitting on circular needles - they are much shorter and easier to manage once you get the hang of them. You don't need to knit in circles tho!

I love Magic Loop...and I only knit on circulars - keeps the knitting contained and I don't have to worry about misplacing a needle. :)

I've tried the Magic Loop and it made my head hurt. I am very competent on dpns so it's am adjustment. I may learn one day. I've discovered 9" circulars. I really like them.

one trick to make magic loop easier is to make sure you have a longer cable.

I had a good needle with a long cable. I think it is just something I have try when I'm in the right mood. It's kind of like putting a jacket on using the other arm first. It feels awkward. It's something that can be done. The idea of two at a time is intriguing even though I don' have second sock syndrome.

We might have to meet sometime and I can show you ;) I want to try two at a time - haven't yet as I haven't tried socks yet.

We're heading past your way next month. I'll let you know if our route goes past you. We have a few options.

So - part of my retirement gift from colleagues is a gorgeous set of interchangeable circular needles - Knitter's Pride "Box of Joy" - what a name eh? Even the box is amazing. And a very generous gift certificate to my local yarn shop - who just happened to have a sale on this weekend! So off I went today & stocked up on some fabulous yarns - shawls & scarves coming right up! Also part of the gift was a kit to make some PC Sunset Mitts - a fair isle pattern with a sailboat on one & our local lighthouse on the other - beautiful variegated yarn for the background in sunset colours. I think my knitting agenda is set for a quite a while! But now I have to decide which project to begin!!

A friend of mine is currently knitting me a beautiful black scarf. From what I've heard, black is the hardest colour to knit.
