Candy canes go beyond the traditional peppermint. There are now a myriad flavours to enjoy.

I haven't had a flavoured candy cane in quite a while. I think most of the (sweet) flavours are better than peppermint though, I only like peppermint in small quantities, even within the various mints it's low down my list.

One of the berries is probably would I would pick to try first.

Some of the new flavours that are out I'm not so sure on. I don't think I want dill pickle or bacon in candy cane form. Certinaly none of the spicy ones (sriracha, washabi).

Hmm... wonder if they have kimchi ones here in Korea.

Be very interested to meet someone who could distinguish between spearmint and peppermint if presented a leaf of both.

I suspect I could if crushed and chewed. I certainly can in commercialized tea form. Spearmint is 'softer'. Peppermint almost has a bit of a spice to it. I do find that mint does change a bit though depending on age, leaf size, etc.

I can certainly tell the difference between the two when i taste them. I prefer spearmint.

Butter rum sounds good. It seems a bit more fitting for the season than fruit flavours, to me. Maybe because I used to get those lifesavers “books” for Christmas as a kid and the butter rum ones were one of my favs - so there’s nostalgia for me about that candy flavour.

Butter rum does sound good. I always enjoyed butter rum and butterscotch lifesavers. I do associate fruit with Christmas though. Santa always left an apple and an orange in each of our Christmas stockings, and we always had a nice box of tangerines to enjoy.

Oh, mandarin oranges or tangerines....yes, those too. But, only the real fruit - whole oranges that you have to peel yourself. Tangerine candy, or canned orange slices aren’t reminiscent of Christmas for me.

If smelled up close I could maybe tell. Could tell by tasting. I prefer peppermint to spearmint. If I buyspearmint rather than peppermint gum for a change, I’m usually wondering why I even did that, when I don’t really like spearmint gum.

Just the opposite here. I find peppermint can be quite bracing. I much prefer the gentler mint of spearmint.

For me, spearmint has a slightly brighter, "greener" taste, when made into teas, anyway. I grow both; peppermint is "wilder" and easier to grow. The spearmint stays primly confined in her sunken pot.

I often use fresh chopped peppermint and spearmint in a tabbouleh salad; don't know how distinguishable they are there.
