Rest In Peace: tomorrow,tomorrow
You would think that Trump would admit to Global Warning and things

bigger than his ego. The last weeks of Hurricanes, tornadoes.fires, and earth quakes around

the world have knocked him off the news cycle.

Will this make him change, do you think?

Here's the thing. Trump now has some reasonably sane people on his team and likely they are telling them that playing the loudmouth populist isn't going to cut it when people are losing their homes and livelihoods to these disasters. And, miraculously, he seems to be listening and laying low at bit. He's even handled the storms fairly well and, God as my witness, done a deal with Democrats on hurricane aid and the deficit ceiling. I doubt he's really turned over a completely new leaf, but it's kind of refreshing not to be hearing about his latest outrageous tweet when I wake up and check the news in the morning. That said, there's no guarantee that the loose cannon won't break loose again. In fact, I fully expect it to happen sooner rather than later.

I'm afraid Mendalla is right. The reality is that the oil industry does not want to touched in this. It's going on here in NB The industry is furious that the Energy Board has postponed a decision on building the eastern pipeline. The provincial newpapers, all owned by the local robber baron have been wild with disgraceful 'news' stories about government perfidy. And the editorials were quite inflammatory, and straight out of the gutter.

Is the gutter a niche society? Then there is the haute Eire situation with the hurry canes ... energy driven with alternate dark Arias ... Nigerian legends?

I was thinking this last night too - hadn't heard much at all from Mr. President in the face of the storm news, other than his visit to Texas. I don't follow twitter, so unless others report on it, I'm not up on his tweets.

It seems remarkable that Trump does not yet recognize climate change - but I'm not sure that is remarkable. It's true of all the world's oil barons. The temptation is to write that down to stupidity. But I suspect it's worse than that. I suspect it's pure greed.

And on the other side, there is also the tendency to put everything on global warming. Yes, global warming is happening, but it will show most of its effects in 50 years (give or take a few). A lot of the catastrophes we see are direct results of our non-respect for the environment; for instance:
– drying up swamps and building roads and houses on them;
– building houses in outlying environments, oftentimes in the forest itself;
– converting natural lake shores full of greeneries into beaches or concrete peers;
– farming, especially industrial farming (removing trees, draining land, etc.)

Just for example, this Spring, two rivers flooded extensively in Eastern Canada as both take water off the same area that received above-average snowfalls (parc de Lavérendrye, north of Mont-Laurier, QC). The Ottawa river received extensive news coverage because lots of houses were flooded all the way between Gatineau and Montréal. The Saint-Maurice river made local news for about 10 minutes because some 20 houses received a bit of water and only 5 were seriously affected; in fact, the only time they talked about it is when highway 155 had to be closed one morning because of flooding. Yet the flooding of the Saint-Maurice river was worst (i.e. it raised by more metres), but few people were affected because houses are higher up.

Alas, many of those who proclaim that we should do everything to limit global warming don't want us to live closer to work; they want us to use electric cars (guess where the batteries come from) to travel by car from our house in the woods to our office.

Late this afternoon, he has been creating havoc again. A leopard never changes his spots.

Anyhew folks

Everything has an effect. We want it to. We want human beings to have an effect on our world. Thatz how we can farm, breed cattle, fish, cause the green revolution that has fed so many human beings, invented human rights, and all that jazz.

Having 0 effect means death. Well, even in death we would have an effect.

Graeme does a very good job illustrating the various horrors that various countries people and governments have and do do. And due to in group out group etc behaviours, we tend to ignore the evils or bad things that our tribe does vs that of the other tribe.

Ok. We learn over time how much an effect things have and what happens when we do things a certain way. A famous dead guy said that the dose determines the poison. Water can kill if we drink too much. Oxygen is a dangerous gas. Etc.

Sometimes we end up creating things that are wonderful inventions that we later learn through use they have bad effects. Like the stuff that was causing the ozone holes.

Now fossil fuels are an amazing and vital resource. Remember the green revolution? We couldn't have done it without it. Helium (which we need for MRIs n cooling electromagnets) we get along with natural gas. Those clothes yer wearing? Prolly made from fossil fuels. Yer computer? The internet? Medical Oxygen? Artificial fertilizer? Transportation for food and supplies and goods? Ashphalt. Plastics in appliances. Lubricants for machinery. Fuel for cars.

I am writing this not yo deny the seriousness of Global Warming but perhaps to remind that fossil fuels arent evil people who use them arent evil and that there are good reasons why oil companies etc would still want to use them that doesnt just rely on greed.

Global warming is just another challenge that we must learn how to adapt to, whether that means overcoming or whatnot.

There is also the economics of it. Economics is always with us. It cant be "gotten rid of" or avoided somehow. Any mitigation tech has to take that into account. Those who know have to figure out what and when to introduce a texhnology. Esp since over time tech becomes CHEAPER.

Some peoplz problms with the EPA aint with its existence but rather the level of regulations limits the use of innovation and tech, which is how we'll get out of this. Because of nuclear energy panic, nuclear energy has been regulated to the point where it is very expensive.

And so forth

Absolutely. Realistically, since the "Fool" took over, much has been threatened, little has happened.

Yet we still have the tribulation of the sun to deal with ... a nuclear goings on? Out there in de dark and unknown .. as we haven't been there yet ... or have we ... perhaps something fore got on purpose of stimulating curios context?

Totally
Complety naturally as our Sun ages eventually there will be TOO LITTLE CO2 on our Earth so that all plant life will die. Completely naturally.
And eventually our sun, like we do as we get older, grow and spread out so that what life is left on the surface of Earth will get burnt away.
All completely naturally and green.
